From Feeling Alone to Belonging
Stepping into the Catholic faith has been a beautiful and reflective journey. About a year ago, I started feeling a pull towards God. I was looking for a deeper connection and meaning in life. Having felt lost and experiencing a deep sense of “aloneness,” I had tried many self-help tools and communities. However, I was still left with this same existential feeling of separateness.
Then, a year ago, after seeing my partner explore Christianity, I felt curious and opened my heart to it. I went online and looked for good resources to explore the faith as a beginner. I ended up listening to recordings of the Alpha Course, which is a journey in exploring the Christian faith for whoever is curious. As I was listening to these recordings, I felt this subtle change in the quality of my days. Things felt softer, alignments were happening frequently, and I felt a sense of peace.
After listening to this course, we went to a Catholic Mass quite spontaneously, and sure enough, there was a flyer for a similar program starting at the parish that September. At that moment, I knew I had to step in and that God was reaching out to me, to us. So we stepped in as a family and have been marveling at the changes this journey has brought into our lives.
I feel more humble and connected to something bigger, to Jesus and the values and teachings he brought into this world. Whenever I doubt or feel lost, I am always reminded of him and what truly matters. I am still finding my way, letting go of many past beliefs and pains, but there is a deeper layer to my life, and I feel part of something bigger; a big family to which I am still learning to surrender and to trust.
To anyone curious, seeking more, looking for truth, and wanting to feel held, I would highly recommend taking the step.
